The idea of building an accommodation like Kiekekot began several years ago. Back then, this place in the center of Mechelen was still a dilapidated barn. A lot has changed since then, including the name. It all started in 1900 when the building that now houses the student rooms was used as a chicken coop belonging to the chicken store. It was a place where stories were born, grew and lived. This past use of the building also explains our name. The name comes from the henhouse that used to be located here and is called Kiekekot in Dutch, and surely is appropriate. After all, a Kiekekot involves a lot of walking in and out and a lot of tiktoking.

 

Back in 2020, we conceived the dream of living spaces for dreamers, thinkers and go-getters. We focused on creating spaces for students as they complete their studies that are so much more than standard accommodation. Close to everything, far from the ordinary.
